Meet Kate

Kate grew up in a union family, attended public schools, and was raised to value social justice. After working her way through college at WKU, Kate wanted to help tackle big problems and headed to law school at the University of Louisville. Kate learned that the job of a lawyer is to problem solve and to fight hard for the people you represent, especially people who have been harmed or disadvantaged by broken systems.

While in school, Kate and her husband, Hollan, lived in Old Louisville and fell in love with the neighborhood for its beauty and diversity. After graduation, Kate proudly served as a public defender and later as an immigration attorney. In her work, Kate has walked with people through systems that don’t work for everyone.

For the past 15 years, Kate has been fighting against injustice and advocating for systemic reforms. She has defended the rights of individuals while working as a public defender, a small business owner, and a volunteer attorney for people in need. Kate wants to put that experience to work building systems that DO work for everyone. Her work has prepared her to tackle the big challenges in District 6 and the City of Louisville with empathy and a big-picture perspective.

She knows that District 6 needs an advocate—not a hero—to amplify community cooperation, people power, and the voices of residents.

As a mom to two kids, ages 11 and 9, Kate understands the challenges facing parents and the responsibilities of raising the next generation. She believes that women, including moms of kids under the age of 18, must have a strong voice on Metro Council. Women make up over 50% of the population but just 38% of our city’s council members, and Kate wants to change that. Kate also believes that District 6 needs and deserves a full-time council member—a representative who does her homework and shows up. She is committed to serving Louisville and District 6 full-time when you send her to Metro Council.
